Description

Ferrari South Bay is thrilled to welcome literal Italian royalty into our showroom: this ultra-rare Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider by Scaglietti, Chassis 15007. This Daytona Spider was FACTORY-PRODUCED, and is one of only 122 made in the factory by Ferrari between 1971 and 1973.. Impeccably styled by Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti with bodywork by Scaglietti, it is a stunning, authentic example of one of Ferrari's most legendary - and rare - open-top V12 Grand Touring cars. While the generally accepted total number of Daytonas is 1,406, including 122 factory-made spiders (only 96 of which came to North America), Chassis 15007 sits as #40 among a genuinely tiny production run, as confirmed with a Ferrari Classiche Certification. It was originally delivered via William Harrah's Ferrari Dealership, and before being delivered to his client, Chassis 15007 was displayed by Modern Classic Motors at the Los Angeles Auto Show in May 1972.

15007 has a storied ownership history, including several star turns for Warner Brothers. First, it was the Hero Car driven by Kris Kristofferson in the 1976 movie A Star is Born. For that film, the car was finished in Rosso Chiaro with a Nero leather interior.

The car then went on to famously star as the Hero Car in the cross-country road race movie, Gumball Rally, where it was finished in Rosso Corsa with Cuoio Leather and Daytona Seats. Driven by Raul Julia, he famously broke off (!) and threw the rear-view mirror over his shoulder while explaining to his passenger that the first rule of Italian driving: what's behind me is not important! It won't be important to you, either, as you are welcomed into the most elite automotive concours in the world.

The exterior of this Daytona Spider is finished in Rosso Chiaro. It has a 4.4 Liter Columbo V12 wearing six Weber Dual-Throat carburetors, and a gated 5-speed manual transmission. It makes a glorious, ripping silk wail only a Ferrari V12 can provide, and which other manufacturers strive fruitlessly to replicate.

The interior is Tan leather with Daytona Seats and Nero Accents. A gated 5-Speed manual transmission sits behind that 4.4 Liter V12 - an always thrilling combination. It has a modern, cosmetically vintage radio mounted vertically in the center console, and typical of Ferraris of this vintage, the air conditioning was supplied by Veglia.

This Daytona Spider is now offered in its original Rosso Chiaro with Tan Leather with Nero accents and is in magnificent condition. It includes a reproduction tool kit and books, and comes with its Ferrari Classiche Certification book, which is still in its unopened wrapper. With every service up-to-date, it is ready to be the star of any show, or to plant a grin on your face in a canyon. In short, there are a scant few Ferraris that combine the beauty, rarity, and history of Daytona Spider 15007.
